About Puja
The first Monday of the month of Shravan is a very auspicious day for worshiping Lord Shiva. On this day, Mahamrityunjaya Jalabhishek Puja holds special significance. It is believed that Lord Shiva is more accessible on earth in Shravan and accepts the prayers of devotees immediately.
Abhishek with Gangajal has special significance because Ganga herself has appeared from Shiva's Jata. Gangajal is a symbol of purification, disease destruction and salvation. When Gangajal is offered on Shivling with Mahamrityunjaya Mantra, it destroys all sins and protects from untimely death.
Kanwar Yatra is also very important in this context. Devotees bring holy Gangajal from far and wide and perform Abhishek on Shivling. It is a symbol of penance, devotion and resolution. It is believed that Gangajal brought from Kanwar is very dear to Lord Shiva and worship done with it gives thousands of times more fruits.
