Dashashwamedh Ghat Kashi

Dashashwamedh Ghat is the oldest and most important ghat of Kashi, which is situated on the banks of the river Ganges. It is believed that Lord Brahma performed ten Ashvamedha Yagyas here, due to which it got the name Dashashwamedh. This ghat is considered very sacred for religious rituals, bathing in the Ganges, and attaining salvation. Every day a grand Ganga Aarti is held here, in which hundreds of devotees and tourists participate. This ghat is not only a center of spiritual power, but also a major place for cultural and religious activities. It is an essential part of Kashi Darshan.The special thing is that the Ganga in Kashi is Uttarvahini, that is, the river Ganges flows towards the north here, whereas normally it flows towards the east. Uttarvahini Ganga is considered very auspicious, sacred and Mokshadayini.
