🙏 The Kamakhya Devi Temple, located in the Kamachha area of Varanasi, is an ancient and powerful Shakti Peetha/Goddess site where Goddess Kamakshi/Kamakhya is worshipped with devotion and offerings. Distinct from the famous Kamakhya Temple in Assam, yet connected to the same Shakti tradition, this local pilgrimage site is a place where Tantra, spiritual practices, and divine energy are experienced.

🔱 According to the ancient legend of the Kashi Khanda:

Once, the great King Divodasa ruled in Kashi, where there was peace, righteousness, and prosperity for all. The gods decreed that there would be no disturbance in Kashi. However, Lord Shiva, who had been away from Kashi, was displeased by this and sent the sixty-four Yoginis to create unrest.

The Yoginis were captivated by the beauty of Kashi and settled there. One of them was Kamakhya/Kamakshi, the great goddess of Tantric power.

📿 According to the legend, the dwelling places of these Yoginis were later considered Shakti Peethas, where divine energy is attained through devotion to the Goddess.

In Kashi Khanda, Chapter 72, Kamakhya is also described as the Mahashakti (great power) generated during Goddess Durga's battle with the demon Durgasura.

🔱 Goddess Sati-Shakti Tradition:

According to the Puranic legend of the Shakti Peethas, parts of Mother Sati's body fell to the earth, and wherever the body parts fell, Shakti Peethas were established. The name Kamakhya is believed to be associated with this tradition, where the "yoni" (vulva) part of the Goddess fell, symbolizing the creative energy of the universe.

This legend tells us that the form of Shakti provides the universe with the energy of balance, creation, and destruction, and devotees worship Shakti by emulating this energy.
