Pind Daan is a very important Pitra Karma in Hinduism, whose purpose is to attain peace and salvation of the departed soul. This karma is considered helpful in the movement of the soul after death and its departure to Pitraloka. In Pind Daan, Pindas made of rice, sesame, ghee and flour are offered in water with special Vedic methods. This karma is a symbol of reverence, gratitude and repayment of debt towards the ancestors.
In Garun Purana, Vayu Purana and other scriptures, Pind Daan has been described as the best way to satisfy the soul and get rid of Pitra Dosha. Pind Daan not only gives peace to the soul of the ancestors, but also paves the way for happiness and peace in the family, happiness of children, and freedom from the obstacles of life. It is especially virtuous to do this karma at pilgrimages like Gaya, Kashi, Prayagraj, Haridwar.
Pind Daan is especially done in Pitru Paksha, but it can be done with devotion at any time. If someone cannot be present personally, then this work can be done by appointing a qualified Brahmin as his representative - and the entire merit of this goes to the host.
