Narayan Bali Puja

Narayan Bali – When Death Occurs Under Such Circumstances

When a person has died under circumstances described as Durmaran, Narayan Bali is prescribed as a form of Prayashchitta (ritual expiation) before the Shraddha and related rites, with the intention of removing the effects associated with such death and praying for the deceased's Sadgati (spiritual welfare).

The text states:

“Nopatisthati Tatsarvam Antarikṣe Vinashyati.”

(Shraddha Prakash)

Purpose of Narayan Bali Puja

Narayan Bali is a Shastric Vedic ritual traditionally performed for Prayashchitta related to Durmaran and for the spiritual welfare of the deceased. Through prescribed rituals, prayers are offered for the peace and Sadgati of the departed soul.

If a person has died under any of the circumstances described above as Durmaran, Hindu ritual traditions prescribe Narayan Bali as Prayashchitta before the regular Shraddha rites.
